According to Lizzie Borden's testimony: she had believed Abby Borden had received a note early around 8:00 AM on the morning of the murder on August 4th. The note contained the summoning of Abby to a sick patient. Later, when Lizzie talked to her mother, Lizzie said that her mother was going out and asked her what she wanted for dinner, and that she had a note and was going to see a sick patient. Lizzie denies hearing Abby leave, but assumed so, since Lizzie has been doing errands all morning in the house and in the barn. After Lizzie discovered the body of Andrew Borden, she told officers and friends that she did not know where Abby was. It was only then when her neighbor, Alice Russell, went up the stairs, did they find the body of Abby Borden, on the other side of the guest bed.
After the commotion calmed down, Lizzie had told officers and lawyers alike that her mother had received a note that morning and that is the reason she did not know where her mother was, or why she questioned that she was not around. When investigators looked for the note, they could not find it. They also could not find the courier whom took the note to the Borden home. And when they asked the town to produce the sick patient or author of the note, nobody came forth. It is also worth mentioning that when Lizzie was giving orders to Bridget after discovering the body of Andrew, and also while in the company of neighbors and police, Lizzie did not ask anyone where Abby was, nor for them to go find her. She only answered "I don't know" when directly asked where Abby was. Fishy, huh?
